Hazel Lorene Bissell

Hazel Lorene Bissell of Cass City, age 82, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Medilodge of Cass City. Hazel was born March 8, 1938 in Flint, the middle child of twelve children born to the late Jesse and Christine (Nolen) Greer. She was united in marriage with Wilfred Bissell on May 14, 1955, and together they had four children. Hazel learned at an early age how to play the guitar and accordion from Molly Carter. She and her brother, Calvin, produced and performed music at local nursing homes early in life. She also had a love for animals, dogs (German Shepherds), cats, horses, cows, etc. which always drew children and teens to her home where they were always welcome. Hazel graduated from high school in her forties and went on to further her education in college, earning a Culinary Art degree. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Kathy (Chris) Ark and Lorie (Patrick) Donnelly; five grandchildren, Jim, Michelle, Jason, Heather and John; three great-grandchildren, Summer, Colten and Raelynn; two sisters, Stella and Marsha; and three brothers, Tom, Dan and Jerry. In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by two sons, Fred Bissell and Kevin Bissell; grandson, Kevin Howse; and seven siblings. Hazel has left a legacy of love, fun, life lessons and joy from knowing her. She taught that spending time with family was important and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge of everything from guitar to horses with anyone wanting to learn. She left those that knew and learned from her how to be self-sufficient. She always helped those in need, sometime strangers, find their path. She will be greatly missed.
