Hazel Gabriel Gouin

Hazel Gabriel Gouin of Caro, formerly Lincoln Park, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the young age of 103, surrounded by her loving family at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw. Hazel was born on July 2, 1920 in Cheboygan, the daughter of the late Arthur and May (Jarvis) Charboneau. She grew up during the depression, leaving the family home at seventeen to go work in a laundromat. Hazel was a true “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II, working at the Hudson Motorcar Factory. On January 20, 1946, Hazel married the love of her life, the late Leo F. Gouin at St. Charles Church in Cheboygan. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother, taking care of their five children. As one of twelve siblings, Hazel had a knack for getting the most out of clothing and family meals; she was known for her delicious chicken & dumplings. She loved to tend to her garden and work in the yard, Hazel had the most beautiful tulips. She enjoyed her afternoon naps, talking about the weather, watching the birds, especially cardinals, and spending time with her family. Hazel had a great sense of humor and was strong-willed until the very end. Her stories and presence will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know and spend time with her. Even though she didn’t make it to her 104th birthday, depending on the day, she believed that she did!

Hazel leaves to cherish her memory, her children & their spouses, Bonnie & Larry Creutz, Dolores & George Brown, Roger & Michaeline Gouin, and Rick & Doris Gouin; and many, many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was welcomed home to heaven by her son, Wayne Gouin; siblings, Arnold, Aurelie, Junior, Carl, Mary Alice “Babe”, Jack, Dick, Chuck, Betty, Dolores, and Leonard.
