Helen C. Deering, 96 of Bay Port, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon.
Born in Caseville on August 20, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Walter) Frei and attended Caseville Public School. On September 8, 1935 she was married to William G. Deering in Saginaw. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1976.
Helen worked at General Cable Corporation in Cass City and retired after 35 years of employment. She was a homemaker and a kind and gentle woman who dearly loved her family. She was a very good cook. She enjoyed doing yard work and walking.
Helen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Pigeon.
She is survived by her son, Gerald Deering of Bay Port; daughter, Janet Hydorn of Caseville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; her sister, Pauline Cherry of Homosassa, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard; her daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Bob Kundinger; infant grandson; sisters, Mary Durkee, Martha Light, and Anna Fischler; and brothers, George Frei and Frank Frei.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Church, with Rev. James A. Gorsegner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church or the Michigan Heart Association.
