H. Iris Hartshorn, age 96, of Caseville died Saturday morning, June 1, 2002 at Sunny Acres Nursing Center, Bad Axe.
She was born May 22, 1906 in Bad Axe, daughter of the late LeRoy and Nellie (Wilson) Terwilliger.
On August 20, 1926 she was united in marriage to Arthur A. Hartshorn in Detroit. He preceded her in death, February 13, 1972.
Mrs. Hartshorn was a 1924 graduate of Bad Axe High School and attended Olivet College. She and her husband Arthur owned and operated the Erwin Hotel (It was at the main corner in Bad Axe where Signature Bank is now located.) After their son Arthur was killed in Korea they sold the hotel and purchased a men’s clothing store in Pigeon, Hartshorn’s Men’s Wear.
They also developed Hartshorns’s Oak Point Lake Subdivision in Caseville Twp. where she resided until recently.
Surviving are two daughters, JoAnn (Gerald) Rogers of Bad Axe and Harriet Detrick of Caseville; her son-in-law, James Keckler of Kalamazoo; fourteen grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her son Arthur, May 2, 1952; a daughter, Grace E. Keckler, Feb. 23, 1993 and son-in-law, Jerome Kuhn, Dec. 9, 1998.
In keeping with her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service at his time. A memorial service will be announced at a later time. Burial will be in Colfax Twp. Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
