Helen Marie Kolowich, age 91, of Caseville, died Friday, January 29, 2010 at her home while under hospice care.

Helen was born June 14, 1918 in Detroit to the late Albert and Ada (Locher) Genther. She married Leo John Kolowich on May 18, 1938 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Utica. Leo preceded her in death on April 11, 2004.

Along with her husband, she owned the Shamrock Bar and Restaurant in Utica until 1968. Having vacationed in Caseville for many years, they retired to their home on Sand Point in 1980. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, St. Roch Women’s Society, Caseville Eagles Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Library Club, and the Caseville Retirement Club. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, sewing, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by her son Dennis and his wife Linda of Alameda, California and daughter Judi Wagner and her husband Butch of Caseville; grandchildren Brad Wagner and his wife Kate, Wendy Wagner and Kelly Kolowich; great-granddaughter Ellie Wagner; sister Ada Rivard of Tennessee and Delores Babbit of Alpena.

Preceding her in death were her sisters Margaret Hill, Doris Broth, and Wanda Kolowich and brother Homer Genther.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at St. Roch Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Pare presiding. Urn burial will be in the spring at St. Roch Cemetery.

Visitation will be 1-5 pm Tuesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville and one hour prior to the mass on Wednesday. There will be a Rosary at 5:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the St. Roch Building Fund or Heartland Hospice.
