Helen C. Mason, age 91, of Caseville died Wednesday afternoon, August 21, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center, near Bad Axe.
She was born on April 30, 1911, in Detroit to the late Edward and Clara (Creagan) Gibbons.
On July 30, 1932, she was united in marriage to Rollin T. Mason in Mt Clemens. He preceded her in death August 26, 1985.
Mrs. Mason was a reporter and journalist for the Detroit Free Press for eight years, leaving to raise her family. She became a ghost-writer for several magazines while at home. After her husband retired in 1973, they moved to Caseville.
Helen was a member of Caseville United Methodist Church and was very active in the Tip of the Thumb Leisure Ministries until her health failed in the late eighties.
Surviving are four daughters, June Mason of Pigeon, Shirley Carter of Fullerton, CA, Karen (Richard) Bell of Lathrop Village, and Edith Mason of Bad Axe; three granddaughters, Carrie, Courtney, and Christine; one sister, Rita Jones of Farmington Hills. She was preceded in death by one grandson, John Carter.
A funeral service will be conducted 12:00 noon Saturday at the Caseville United Methodist Church with viewing one hour prior to the service at church. Rev. Michael Quayle, pastor will officiate with burial in Caseville Twp. Cemetery.
