Helen S. Thompson age 99, of Cass City, passed away on Monday evening, March 21, at her home with family at her bedside.

She was born August 5, 1916, in Alexandria, LA., daughter of the late Morrill and Clotile (Siess) Shaw. Helen grew up in Baton Rouge, Lousiana. She attended college for two years at Louisiana State University and completed her studies with two years at business college. She was employed for five years with the State of Louisiana in the Department of Research and Statistics located within the State Capital building in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Helen met and married Leonard "Tommie" Thompson while he was serving in the United States Army/Airforce in the 1940's. She relocated to Michigan in 1947, with her husband. They lived in the Elkton area until they purchased a farm north of Cass City in 1957.

Helen was an excellent seamstress and a fabulous cook. She had a sizeable garden for many years, raising vegetables and flowers including dahlias. She also enjoyed her various hybred roses grown around her country home. She had beautiful African violets growing within her house. Her enjoyment of square dancing with her husband and "The Town and Country" square dance association will forever remain a fond memory with her four children. Helen designed and sewed most of their apparel for square dancing.

Helen was a former member of the Chandler Presbyterian Church and currently, the First Presbyterian Church, Cass City.

She is survived by four children and their spouses; Bettye and Fred Maki of West Bloomfield, Clotile and Ray Fox of Cass City, Larry and Cindy Thompson of Spring Hill, FL and Jim and Rhonda Thompson of Ypsilanti; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Bernadine) Thompson of Utica and Lyle (Naomi) Thompson of Port Huron.
Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 2009 and brothers, Morrill Shaw and John Shaw.

A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, April 30, at First Presbyterian Church, Cass City. A time for visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Interment will be in the Chandler Twp Cemetery. Arrangements haved been entrusted to the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton, Michigan.

Floral arrangements are being accepted or donations may be made to the Rawson Memorial Library, Cass City, Michigan.
