Helen Mary Vollmar

Helen Mary Vollmar of Caro, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Heritage Hill surrounded by her family. She was born August 1, 1927 in Caro, the daughter of the late John and Katherine Smakowski. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Dwain Vollmar on June 5, 1948 at Colling Nazarene Church. Their marriage was blessed with over forty-one years and countless cherished memories. Sadly, Dwain passed away in November 1989. Helen was an excellent homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed reading, going on crop tours, watching NASCAR and never turned down a trip to the casino. Helen was fun, loving, and the most caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed dearly.

Helen leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Diane LaPratt, Gary (Kathy) Vollmar, Dale Vollmar, and Randy Vollmar; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda McNeil; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her son-in-law, James LaPratt; granddaughter; great-grandson; and her brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Rev. Brad Speirs will officiate with private burial held at Indianfields Twp. Cemetery. Helen’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of her service. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Heritage Hill for the amazing and compassionate care they have given to Helen these past three years. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Tuscola County Veteran Affairs or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
