Helene E. Mendel

Helene E. Mendel, age 83, died Wednesday morning, January 19, at Wyandotte Henry Ford Hospital following a long illness.
She was born April 19, 1921 in Port Huron to the late Peter and Flora (Parker) Kivel and grew up in the Elkton/Pigeon area..
On May 13, 1950, she was united in marriage to John F. Mendel in Monroe living in the Lincoln Park area most of their married life. After his retirement in 1969 they moved to Rose City, returning to the Thumb in the mid eighties. John preceded her in death December 17, 1986. Helene moved back to Lincoln Park for a while then to Sebewaing in 1999. She always enjoyed being with her family and friends.
Surviving are three children, Lloyd (Pam) Geiger of Brownstown, David (Sue) Geiger of Pigeon and Nancy (Ken) Yuchuck of Trenton; twelve grandchildren; many great grandchildren and three sisters, Reatha (Frank) Laurence of Sebewaing, Doris (Archie) Dickerson of Harbor Beach and Frieda (Clayton) Esch of Pigeon.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Donna Rideout; a son, Daniel Geiger; three brothers, Orville, Oscar and Bill Kivel and a sister, Janet Kivel.
Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, January 22 at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Rev. Thurman Holmes, pastor of Downriver Baptist Church, Wyandotte will officiate with burial in Elkland Twp. Cemetery, Cass City.
Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
