Herbert C. Campbell, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Tendercare in Ludington. He was born on August 20, 1922 in Highland Park to the late Herbert R. and Julia (Bailey) Campbell. Herbert Campbell married the former Dorothy Roblin in 1944 at North Branch. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2011. Herbert and Dorothy spent their early years in the Detroit area, and then purchased and ran a trailer park in Rothbury. The Campbells moved to their farm in Custer in 1972. He made quite a name for himself running Herbs Tractors from the farm and finding used parts and selling used tractors to people in the area. He is survived by five children, Lawrence (Stephanie) Campbell of Dearborn, Leona (David) Krause of Romulus, Herbert Campbell II of Bay City, Lamar Campbell of Garden City, and Gerald Campbell of Wayne; seven grandchildren, Mark (Amy) Campbell of Dearborn, Eric (Julie) Campbell of Austin, Texas, Kellie (Mike) Foco of Hudsonville, Herbert Campbell III and his wife, Nicole, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Amy Campbell and Simon of Bay City, Loren Campbell of Bay City, Sean Krause of Romulus; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Gary; a grandson, Gary Campbell; Lamars cherished wife, Shelly Campbell, who recently died; his siblings, Harold and Robert Campbell, Ruth Mayhew and Jeannette Jackson. The funeral service will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ronald Wigand, First Baptist Church of Caro, officiating. Burial will be at Almer Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
