Herma S. Gnagey, 96, of Pigeon, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.
Herma was born December 16, 1925 in Archbold, Ohio to the late Simon and Elsie (Nofzinger) Short. She married Ray Gnagey August 21, 1949 in Archbold; he preceded her in death October 13, 2008.
Herma was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was widely known for her baking skills, especially her cinnamon rolls and homemade caramels that she enjoyed sharing.
Herma is survived by her children Marlene (Edward Donovan) of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Joan (Alan) Hass of Bad Axe, Shelia (Timothy) Proctor of Broadway, Virginia, and Steve (Tamara) of Pigeon; grandchildren Shawn (Erin) Gehringer, Amanda (Alan) Sadro, Alan Jr (Tracy Schenk) Hass, Alicia Proctor, Melissa (Nathan) Moore, Kayla Gnagey, Kendra (Chadwick) McAuley, and Grant (Carly) Gnagey; great-grandchildren Kaylin (Nick) Lloyd, Logen Sadro, Shelby Sadro, Blaine Moore, Kenzington Gnagey, and Charlotte Hass; and great-great-grandson Bentley Lloyd; sister Ada Short of Ohio; and brothers Walter (Shirley) Short of Ohio, Roger Short of Ohio and Herbert (Arlene) Short of Indiana. She was preceded in death by her brothers Arthur and Harold Short and sisters Bessie Emch, Doris Ebersole, Helen Holsopple, and Grace Brenneman.
Private funeral services will be held at Pigeon River Mennonite Church with Rev. Dave Maurer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Champagne Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
The family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Courtney Manor for the compassionate care they provided Herma during her 3 year stay there.
