Hilda Dehmel Gremel, age 100, of Sebewaing, MI, entered Heaven's Gate on August 15, 2024, two days short of turning 101. She was born on August 17, 1923 in Sebewaing to parents William and Edna (Oker) Dehmel, Hilda was the youngest of three children. She married Orville (Orv) Gremel on March 4, 1944, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sebewaing. Together they raised three daughters and one son.
Hilda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she attended grade school. After graduation from Sebewaing High School in 1941, Hilda worked at the Bank in Sebewaing until her marriage to Orv. She moved from Sebewaing to the family farm where they raised their family. After her marriage, Hilda joined St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Bach, MI, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau. Hilda was an administrative assistant to the principal at Sebewaing High School from 1960 – 1965.
Hilda loved to sew and quilt. She was an instructor for Bishop Sewing where she enjoyed teaching the craft to others. Another favorite pastime was swimming with her friends at the indoor pool at Sandy Shores Wellness Center. Hilda was a great cook and baker for her family. She enjoyed traveling with Orv throughout the United States, South America and Europe. They enjoyed wintering at their residence in Boynton Beach, FL, for over 30 years.
Hilda is survived by three daughters, Kay (Ronald) Lee, Madison, WI, Ann (David) Germond, East Jordan, MI, Joan (Bryan) Marko, Delray Beach, FL, and one son, Joel (Lyndsay) Gremel, Sebewaing, MI; eight grandchildren, James (Laura) Lee, Jonathan (Jodi) Lee, Katherine (Kyle Smith) Lee, Abigail (Preston) Rodriguez, Jeffrey (Andrea) Germond, Julie (Randy McLain) Germond, Erica (Carl) Bednarski and Grant Gremel; and 16 great grandchildren.
Hilda is also survived by a sister-in-law, Norma Bates and a brother-in-law, James (Judy) Gremel; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Orv in 2014, parents, William and Edna Dehmel, stepmother, Lydia Dehmel, sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Karl Ewald, brother and sister-in-law, Roland and Dorothy Dehmel, two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Alfred Taglauer and Bette and Karl Kundinger and one brother-in-law, Vernon Bates.
Visitation hours will be from 5 pm - 8 pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home, 538 South Beck Street, Sebewaing and again on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 10 am – 11 am at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with the service beginning at 11 am. Pastor Thom Garrison will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Christ the King Lutheran School or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
