Hortensia "Tangy" Gremel

July 25, 1943 — March 19, 2023

Bay Port

Hortensia Gremel, 79 of Bay Port passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023 at home, peacefully surrounded
by family.
Tangy was born July 25, 1943 in Castroville, Texas to the late Hipolito and Adelfina (Cuellar) Flores. She
retired after having worked over forty years at Michigan Sugar in Sebewaing. She was a member of Our
Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. Tangy was a great representative of her family. Her home was a common
ground for many. You could count on open arms, great family stories, a full belly, and a bag of goodies
from her various Walmart visits. In her free time, she enjoyed many travels to Traverse City, Texas, and
leisurely rides, which actually meant a ride to pick up ten cents alongside the road. If Tangy wasn’t
traveling you could find her outside on her front porch drinking Dr. Pepper, watching her hummingbirds
or watering her plants. She enjoyed crocheting and loved watching the faces light up, when they were
able to choose their own dish towels from her crochet pile.
Tangy is survived by her husband Kenneth; children Orlando Flores of Traverse City and Julie Flores of
Bay Port; granddaughter Aubrey Flores; siblings Evangelina Garza, Guadalupe Patterson, and Hipolito
Flores. She is preceeded in death by siblings Rudolph Flores, Louise Hernandez, John Flores, Eusebio
Flores, Diana Haller, and a grandson Cody Vanderlooven.
A mass offered for her intention will be held at a later date. A private Interment will be in St. Francis
Borgia Catholic Cemetery, Pigeon. Champagne Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish.
