Howard J. Karl age 78, of Pigeon died Saturday, January 3, at his home while battling multiple health problems.
He was born September 29, 1936 in McKinley Twp., oldest son of the late John and Ada (Newville) Karle.
Howard joined the US Army after graduating from Pigeon High School. While in the service he met Allie O. Smith and on September 20, 1958 they married in Newman, GA. He served in Vietnam and he and his family traveled around the world, staying in the military for 20 years retiring in 1974.
In 1978, he moved back to Huron County residing in Pigeon. He started a job at Michigan Oven, Caseville as a painter, retiring from there in 1998.
He and Allie were active members of the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. Allie preceded him in death December 14, 2012. Howard enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, camping traveling and most recently playing and working on his computer.
Surviving are his children, Eddie (Lisa) Karl of Caseville, Bregetta (Greg) Witter of Chandler, IN, Bobby (Shelly) Karl of Unionville and Joe Karl of Roseville; his daughter-in-law, Rana Karl of Gagetown; grandchildren, Kimberly, Benjamin (Mandy), Glenn (Ashley), John (Kari), Andrew (Bethany), Bobby Jr. (Azurah), Vera, Haley (Eric), Lynn, Ammie and Duncan; seven great grandchildren; a sister Janet (Don) Ousley and two brothers, Mike (Debbie) Karl and Lewis Karl all of Caseville.
Preceding him in death were two sons, Everett and Bobby G. and a brother, Joseph Karl.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday at the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. Rev. Ean Green, pastor will officiate with burial in Grandlawn Cemetery, Pigeon.
Friends and family may call at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 6 PM Wednesday and at the church after noon on Thursday.
