Irene "Dolly" Aymer of Akron, age 90, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Covenant Health Care - Cooper in Saginaw. Dolly was born April 14, 1932 in Kingston, the daughter of the late Michael and Angeline (Marshall) Dudek. She graduated from Kingston High School with the class of 1950 and attended Tuscola County Normal shortly after. Dolly began a distinguished career in education with Kingston Schools before a brief time spent teaching in Buena Vista. Her final position was with the Akron-Fairgrove School District, where she taught all grades from kindergarten through eighth grade for sixteen years before serving the next twenty-eight years as a principal. As a leader by example, she continued her education while at Akron-Fairgrove and earned her Master of Education Degree. Dolly retired in 1998, but remained busy serving her community as a parish council member, eucharistic minister, and Sunday school teacher for Sacred Heart Church in Caro, and as a board member for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Imagination Library. She also served as interim principal of Mayville Schools and as a school board member for Akron-Fairgrove. Dolly enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating, computers, camping, and time spent with her faithful dachshund, Lilly Rose. More than anything, she cherished time spent with family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She was an educator and mentor at heart that led with love, demanded excellence, and had a strong faith in the Lord for all to see. Left to cherish Dolly's memory are her children, Edward & Roxanne Westerby, Michele & Larry Latimer, Daniel & Patricia Westerby, Steven & Susan Westerby; six grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel Powell, Katie & Matthew Long, Danielle & Branden Crockett, Richie & Nikki Westerby, Cristina & Mark Protiva, Allison & Stephen Gruehn; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Morgan, Drew, Cole, Calvin, Adalyn, Jake, Paisley, Nash, Liam, Kara, Sully, and Mila. In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Westerby in 1969; and second husband, Frank Aymer in 2000; great-grandson, Jaxsen Westerby in 2012; brothers, Steve, Connie, Joseph, and Donald Dudek; and sisters, Helene Botkins, Stella Ratkos, Amelia Czelada, and Delores Kipfmiller.
