Jacob Sattler, Jr.

Jacob John Sattler, Jr., age 84, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Caretel Inns in Bay City, following a period of declining health. Jacob Sattler was born on October 11, 1927 on the family farm in rural Unionville to the late Jacob Sattler, Sr. and Susie Manz Sattler. Jacob was a lifelong resident of Tuscola County. On June 18, 1949 he was united in marriage with the former Velma Ewald at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Unionville. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2007. The Sattler family moved to Caro in 1967. Jacob worked at a number of jobs before he went to work for the Tuscola Intermediate School District. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Tuscola County Polish American Club. He loved gardening, hunting, playing cards, and in earlier years he enjoyed fishing. Jacob is survived by three sons, two daughters and their spouses, Debra (Gerald) Desimpelaere of Unionville, Rick Sattler of Caro, Joe (Patti) Sattler of Cadillac, Kristine (Ronald) McGowan of Silverwood and Michael Sattler of Caro; six grandchildren, Chad Sattler, Katie and Erin Sattler, Gerry and Edward Desimpelaere and Briana (Gabriel) McGowan-CeCe; two great-grandchildren; Isabella and Samuel; a sister-in-law, Irene Sattler of Bay City; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Sattler; three sisters and four brothers, Clara Asmus, Henry Sattler, Margaret Trompics, Steve Sattler, Frank Sattler, Helen Boyle, and Susie Druelle. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro with Fr. John Ladd officiating. Rite of Committal will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. There will be a Vigil Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
