Jacob David Zawilinski

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our son, Jacob David Zawilinski, on Monday, January 6, 2020 at the age of 20. Jake was born April 22, 1999 in Lapeer, the son of David & Tammie (Lockrey) Zawilinski. He graduated from Caro High School with the class of 2017 where he excelled in several sports, especially basketball. While a student, he had the opportunity to travel to Spain and Italy and dreamed of studying Spanish in college and returning to Europe as a travel guide. Known by his friends as "Ski", Jake was always ready for the next adventure and enjoyed every opportunity to tour the country. The West Coast always appealed to him, and he was able to stay in Oregon for a period of time working in hotel construction, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Jake made friends wherever he went and will be remembered for his wit and funny antics. Spare time was often spent playing video games and relaxing with buddies in the hot tub. He leaves a hole in the hearts of countless many that loved him dearly. Left to cherish Jake's memory are his parents, David & Tammie Zawilinski of Caro; one brother, Blaine Newsom of Fostoria; one sister, Jessica (Andrew) Guinn of St. Charles; nephew, Jaiden Newsom; maternal grandfather, Patrick (Linda) Lockrey; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his Dachshund, Mickey "McWagger." Jake was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Cheryl Lockrey; paternal grandparents, Martin & Virginia Zawilinski; and uncle, Phillip "Buck" Zawilinski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2020 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Caro, with Rev. Christian Tabares officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday an hour before the service. The visitation at the funeral home on Sunday will conclude with eulogies being shared at 6:30 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro Lions Club that inspired Jake's love of basketball from an early age.
