James W. Babbitt, 89, of Caseville, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon of lung cancer.
Jim was born November 21, 1926 in Wallaceburg, Ontario to the late Charles and Catherine (Yax) Babbitt. After school he worked in the merchant marine on several Great Lakes ships. In 1946 he was working aboard the Canadian passenger ship Noronic when he met his future wife who was traveling as a passenger on a class trip from Ohio. On November 20, 1948 he and Marjorie Kyle were married at the Courtland Christian Church in Courtland, Ohio.
After marrying they lived in Wallaceburg, Ontario before moving to East Detroit in 1959, and then to Caseville in 1990. Jim worked as a superintendent for Wolverine Die Cast and retired in 1990 from Robert Brooks Computer Sales in Troy. He was a member of the Caseville Eagles Club and the Caseville Retirement Club.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie; sons Eric (Anne Marie) of Toronto and Todd (Dione) of Caseville; grandchildren Matthew, Philip, Gina, Melissa, Todd Jr., and Shawn; great-grandchildren Noah, Eden, Stella, Dean, Samuel and Aurora; sisters Marion Murphy and Isobel (Cornel) Homorodean and brother John (Betty) Babbitt, all of Ontario. He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia, brother Charles Jr., and brother-in-law Thomas Patrick Murphy.
A memorial service will be at 1:00pm Sunday, February 28th at the Caseville Eagles Club followed by a luncheon. Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
