James H. “Buno” Dubey, 92, of Pigeon passed away July 14, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw after a short illness.
James was born September 23, 1925 in Bay Port at the home of his parents, the late Arthur and Louise (Buerker) Dubey. He married Diane Lawrence on June 14, 1988 in Caseville.
After serving in the US Navy during World War II, he returned to Bay Port and ran a full-service gas stations before joining Peoples Oil & Gas Co. in Pigeon. After retiring from Peoples, he also worked for Pioneer Seed, Axis Machining and Hope Network. Jim loved all kinds of sports. At Bay Port High School he was a standout football and basketball player. He also earned recognition as a boxer. He enjoyed playing tennis and ping pong with family members. He and his wife Diane loved to go for rides in their car and stopping for a meal along the way. Visits from his grandchildren were always special and put a smile on his face.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years Diane; three sons, Jay (Pam) Dubey of Pigeon, James (Leslie) Dubey of Alma and Patrick Dubey of Bay Port; two stepdaughters, Angie Lawrence (Mike Kent) of Filion and Mary (Bob) Burak of Brown City; two stepsons, Rick Lawrence of South Lyon and Jeff (Tara) Lawrence of Pigeon; grandchildren Jeffrey, Laura, Brooke, Lindsey, Jamie, Ashlee, Michael, Kellee, Brody, Drew, Brooke, Bobby and Levi; and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, older brothers John and Robert and older sisters Margaret Jerome, Genevieve Warner and Agnes Hoeh.
A memorial service will be 3pm Thursday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until the time of the service on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the family.
