James Edward Hartman of Sand Point, age 87, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Covenant Healthcare Cooper in Saginaw.

Jim was born on August 21, 1937, in Marysville, Michigan, to the late Alfred and Frances (Markish) Hartman. He graduated from Marysville High School, where he was honored as the school’s “Best Athlete.” After high school, Jim attended Central Michigan University before pursuing a career in the building trades as a skilled tile setter. He worked for J.C. Cokley, now Fabris Pearce Tile & Terrazzo, retiring in 1999.On October 3, 1997, Jim married the love of his life, Mary Daun (Moore) Ellis. Together, they shared over 27 years of marriage, creating countless cherished memories. Jim was a parishioner of St. Roch Church in Caseville and actively involved in the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in both Caseville and Lapeer. He was passionate about fishing and loved spending time on the water, often out on the boat. A true sports enthusiast, Jim enjoyed football and basketball, but it was his commanding presence and feisty personality that made him unforgettable to all who knew him. Jim's intelligence was unmatched; he had a remarkable ability to solve any challenge put before him.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories, survived by his devoted wife, Mary Daun; children, Paul (Julie) Hartman, Mary Beth (Steve) Coppo, and Amy Hartman; stepsons, Dr. Tom Ellis (Craig Shishido) and Tim Ellis; grandchildren, Dan Hartman, David Hartman, and Jackie Coppo; his brother, David (Bonnie) Hartman; his sister, Joan Shell; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In keeping with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service is being planned for August. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
