James Lee Fitchett of Caro, age 81, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Saturday, June 24, 2023 at his home. Jim was born September 9, 1941, in Detroit, the son of the late George and Eleanor (Litzner) Fitchett. He graduated from Elkton High School and enrolled in the United States Navy, serving three years. In November of 1960, Jim married his high school sweetheart, neighbor, and best friend, the former Ruth Hazard. Their marriage was blessed with nearly sixty-three years, three children, and countless laughs and memories. Upon returning from the Navy, Jim began a career with Saginaw Steering Gear, where he served for over thirty years, retiring as a machine operator. Jim was a Mason for thirty-six years at the Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F. & A.M, a Knight’s Templar, Elf Khurafeh Shriner, and never missed a chance to drive the mini cars. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and dabbled in woodworking. Jim was always there if anyone needed help and could count on him for a good wise crack. Above all, he loved being with his family, whether it was family cookouts or just visiting. Jim had the best time playing games with his wife, children, and grandchildren, no matter how many times he was accused of cheating. Some of the best memories were playing two-deck pinochle with peanut M&M’s and war. Jim’s mischievous, silly, helpful, and caring soul will be missed beyond measure for years to come.
Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Ruth; children, James Fitchett, Jr., Scott (Debra) Fitchett, and Sandy (Mike) Wilson; grandchildren, Josh Fitchett, Tamber Fitchett, Ashley Wilson (Joe Lutz), Dustin (Alyssa) Wilson, Autumn Fitchett, and Aaliyah French Fitchett.
A memorial service with Masonic Final Rites will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Brad Speirs officiating. The family will be present to receive visitors from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Jim’s 1:00 p.m. service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the wishes of the family, c/o Ruth Fitchett, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro.
