James Allen Garcia of Caro, age 54, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025 at McLaren – Flint, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 20, 1971, the son of the late Orville Dean & Consuelo (Garcia) Nickerson.
After graduating from Midland Christian Academy in 1991, James began his career in security on Mackinac Island and later worked in the adult foster care field. It was during this time that he met the former Christy O’Kelly, and the couple was married on April 5, 1997.
Over the years, James held a variety of jobs that reflected his vibrant personality and diverse interests. One of his most memorable roles was driving an ice cream truck, where he’d cruise through the countryside with music blasting, delivering sweet treats to everyone. He also worked for Wolverine and later spent many dedicated years as a Resident Care Aide at the Caro Center until his medical retirement. After stepping away from caregiving, James turned his passion for music into a new venture and launched Big Daddy Productions, where he collaborated with numerous bands to help promote and share their sound.
James had a special bond with his cat, Star, who often appeared in his videos and was a frequent topic of his conversations. He found great joy in music, playing electric guitar, and riding motorcycles. Some of his fondest memories were made on long road trips with his riding buddies and family camping adventures. When health challenges kept him off the road, James channeled his creativity into photography, video production, and podcasting.
Left to cherish James’ memory are his children, Josefina Ella-Garcia Addison (Jenna), José Luis Garcia, Jayden James Garcia, and Cordellia Lynn Garcia; step-son, Jaron Guild O’Kelly; sister, Julie (Joel) Clapper; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James & Leotta (Deneen) Nickerson; and maternal grandparents, José & Josefina (Lazaro) Garcia.
In keeping with James’ wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Pastor Ida Miller officiating. Jame’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
