James J. Grannell, 76, of Elkton, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020 at McLaren Bay Region Hospital in Bay City.
James was born July 22, 1943 in Bad Axe to the late Elwood and Esther Marion (Roberts) Grannell. He graduated from Lakers High School in 1961. He served in the US Army as a paratrooper. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial/business personnel and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling. He worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and institutional social worker. He retired after 14 years as program director at Caro Regional Health Center. He continued to provide services to the community part time with Catholic Family Services in Bad Axe.
He is survived by his wife Marisela; daughter Lisa (Nate) Day of Twin Lakes; step children Yuceli and Yoni; 4 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; siblings Nancy Herdell of Indian River, John of Bad Axe and Marlene (Tom) Romzek of Clarkston; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Katherine Barker; nephew Mark Herdell and great nephew Joseph Romzek.
A celebration of his life will be at Noon Monday, March 9th at the Franklin Inn in Bad Axe. You are encouraged to bring photos and stories to share. Champagne Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
