James A. Herford, 66, a lifelong Elkton resident, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021 surrounded by family.
Jim was born October 20, 1954 in Bad Axe to the late Welland A. and Grace I. (McPhee) Herford. He graduated in 1972 from Laker High School. On December 8, 1979 he married Kimberly Gunden at the Elkton United Methodist Church.
Jim and his brother Bill owned W.A. Herford and Sons Farms. He was a member of Elkton United Methodist Church, Michigan Farm Bureau, Thumb Tractor Pullers Association and stockholder in Michigan Sugar Company. He loved driving trucks, tractors and operating farm equipment and hauling cattle. He enjoyed driving his in-laws to Florida and spending time with his family, especially children.
Jim is survived by his wife Kim; children Brandon (Sherry) of Elkton and Tara (Jason) Kuhne of Bay Port; grandchildren Isabella, Blake, Rhett, Kara (Caleb) and Trisha (Jared); great-grandchildren Harper and Dawson; siblings Jean of Lansing, Janis (Vincent) Rugnetta of Brighton, Bill (Barb) of Elkton, and Sherry (Will) Clark of Williamston; mother-in-law and father-in-law John Dale and Ethel Gunden of Bay Port; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Pauline Herford.
The funeral will be 11:00 Thursday, May 6th at Elkton United Methodist Church with Rev. Won D. Kim officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 Wednesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel.
