James Kennison

James F. Kennison, age 99, went to be with the Lord surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Tendercare of Cass City. Born May 8, 1913 in Flint to Sherwood and Effie (Frost) Kennison, James married the former Arleen Brahm March 2, 1935 in Jackson. During the Depression James worked for the C.C.C. in Northern Michigan. When he became of age, James tried to join the Armed Forces, but was not able to pass his physical. Determined to help his country, he went to work at the B-24 bomber plant in Ypsilanti and then the coal mines in Kentucky. Moving back to Michigan, James was employed as a journeyman tool & die maker at United Plastics and Vassar Manufacturing before retiring from Eaton Foundry in Vassar. When not working, James loved spending time with “the two boys” and their families, cutting firewood, collecting guns and tinkering in the garage as he was known as being a jack-of-all trades. James is survived by his two boys, James S. and his wife, Jean, and Richard J. Kennison, both of Vassar; three granddaughters, Christa Scheneman and her husband, Tim of Fenton, Shannon Barnard and her husband, Mike of Richville, and Stephanie Kennison of Reese; four great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Cameron Scheneman, Sawyer Barnard, and Skye Rose; and his chocolate Lab, Hey-You. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and one brother, Levi Kennison. In keeping with James wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Pastor Anthony Jacobs officiating. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at a later date at the Indianfields Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Calvary Chapel Fellowship, 328 Prospect, Vassar, MI 48768. The family would like to send a special “thank-you” to Heartland Hospice Care and to Tendercare of Cass City for going above and beyond in the care James received.
