James A Matteson, age 94, long time educator and superintendent at Laker High School, passed away Friday morning, July 1, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe.
He was born December 25, 1921, in Albion to the late William and Bessie (LaDue) Matteson. Jim grew up in Clio and graduated from Clio High School in 1948. Right after high school he enlisted in the US Army serving during WWII.
Surviving are his, wife of 68 years, Evelyn; two sons, James (Jill) Matteson of Centerville, OH and Thomas (Hisami) Matteson of Elkton; a daughter, Barbara (Rick) Fogarsi of Kalamazoo and eight grandchildren, Jodi, Jason, Kristi, Kori, Hannah, Paige, Erika and Tyler.
Preceding him in death was a daughter, Debra Matteson, a grandson, Joshua Forster; two brothers, William and Robert Matteson and two sisters, Kathleen Allen and Dorothy Jordon.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 PM Saturday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton.
There will be no public memorial services and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
