James J. Melin

James J. Melin of Riverview, Florida, formerly of Caro, passed away on October 6, 2020. James was born July 1, 1938 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. James is survived by his second wife of twenty-four years, Janice Melin of Riverview, Florida; his children and their spouses, Joseph & Cathy Melin of Linwood, Ella & Tim Ruprecht of Vassar, Jeff & Pam Melin of Troy, John & Jeannie Melin of Aldie, Virginia, Antionette & Steve Prabucki of Zilwaukee, Judith & John Vudures of Unionville; his step-children and spouses, Walter & Oleta Rutherford of Romulus, LaDonna & James Aliff of West Virginia, Robert & Betsy Rutherford of Elizabeth, Pennsylvania; twenty grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of thirty-five years, Ruth E. Melin of Caro; his sister, Mary Lou Chalin; and brother-in-law, Allen Dale. James was a retired forest fire officer for the Department of Natural Resources in Michigan. He was a devoted husband, brother, father, and grandfather to all his family. He loved to cook, travel, and work on various houses he has owned through the years in Michigan and Florida. He enjoyed visiting with his many friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all for his generous heart, wonderful sense of humor and his loving nature. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Interment will follow at Almer Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to donate to the Caro Moose Lodge or the Moose Lodge in Riverview, Florida in James' name.
