James Roger Menzel

James Roger Menzel, age 81, died Friday, April 1, 2016, at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw, after a short illness with the comfort of his loving family by his side.

Jim was born on January 17, 1935, at his parent's home in Unionville. He married Diane Schobert on February 22, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They celebrated 58 wonderful years together.

Jim was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. He farmed all his life and retired from Bay City Chevrolet. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger life and loved working in his woods with his son-in-law, Rob. Jim's joy was his garden and his lawn was immaculate. One of his hobbies was playing pool with his friends at Pickles in Unionville.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Diane; son and daughter, Scott (Kathy) Menzel of Palmetto, FL and Crystal (Rob) Kappen of Cass City; three grandchildren: Ava, Heather, Seth; one great grandchild, Gloria; two sisters: Verlane Ertman of Grosse Pointe and Shirley Otto of Troy; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ester Menzel; his in-laws, Donald and Vernetta Schobert; sisters: Beverly Brown, Ethel Hessler, Winifred Richards, Linda Hemerline and Marian Stack; and brother-in-law's.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing, from 2-8pm.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. Visitation will begin at the church at 2pm until the time of service at 3pm, with Pastor Steven Stolarczyk and Pastor Michael Allen officiating.

Burial will take place following the service at Columbia Twp. Cemetery.
