James M. Shayna

James M. Shayna of Caro, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at his home. Jim was born March 25, 1936 in Detroit, the son of the late Mike and Marie (Zartack) Shayna. He was united in marriage with the former Carol Rankin on August 18, 1963, and she survives. He proudly served his country by serving four years with the U.S. Air Force and three years with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, Jim had several different jobs including truck driver, farmer, Michigan Bell Telephone, Clark Equipment, and eventually General Motors where he worked as a millwright, electrician and machine repair. He was a licensed electrician, builder and beekeeper. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, vacationing in his retirement, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed working in his garage and driving his tractor. Jim was a member of the American Legion, lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and longtime member of the Caro Assembly of God Church where he served in whatever capacity was needed. He enjoyed gospel, classical and jazz music, motorcycles, and tinkering. There was nothing he couldn't fix. Jim had been a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and also a hospice volunteer for ten years. His greatest desire was to see his children and their spouses, grandchildren, great-grand-children, and all his family in heaven. Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Shayna; three children, James K. Shayna, Dean M. Shayna, Dawn & Forest Sager; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Janice Binkowski, Mike & Nancy Shayna, Carol & Steve Zultowski; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Caro Assembly of God Church on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Revs. David Dietzel and Arnold Burger officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Carol Shayna, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, MI 48723.
