Janet M. Garety

March 3, 1918 — June 20, 2006

After living a life filled with God’s Blessings, Janet M. (Wallace) Garety age 88, of Sand Point, Michigan passed away June 20, at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe.
She was born in Saginaw on March 3, 1918, to the late Bruce and Margaret (Koehler) Wallace. On July 17, 1943, she was united in marriage to Dr. Patrick J. Garety DDS. He preceded her in death March 4, 2002.
She was a graduate of Central Michigan University with post graduate studies at Wayne State University. While Janet spent many years as her husband’s dental assistant in Caro, her first love was always teaching. She was very proud of the 15 years she taught 1st and 3rd grade at Frank E. Schall Elementary School in Caro. She had also taught in Saginaw, East Detroit and Bloomfield Hills prior to coming to Caro. She enjoyed her retirement years reading, golfing and participating in putting leagues in Florida, but her favorite pastime was sitting on her porch watching the waves on Saginaw Bay.
Surviving are her children, Patrick Garety Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee, Ann (Joel) Hyde of Rockford, Joan Garety of Ada; grandchildren, Rachel (Todd) VanderWall of Lakewood, Colorado, Kevin Hyde of Chicago, Illinois, Mary Hyde of Grand Rapids, and Caroline Hyde of Rockford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frank E. Schall Elementary School for professional development to promote literacy. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 am Saturday, June 24, at St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville. Internment will be in St. Roch’s Cemetery in Caseville. Visitation will be Friday 2pm to 8pm at Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville and after 10 AM Saturday at the church.
