Janice Benson

Janice Benson, age 74, of Bay Port, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017, in the comfort of her own home.

Janice was born November 6, 1942, in Detroit, to Felix and Ethel (Radke) Boik. She married Charles Benson on December 16, 1961, in Detroit. She worked as a nurse's aide for many years at a nursing home. Janice enjoyed crafting, playing bingo, going to the Soaring Eagle Casino, spending time with and watching her grandchildren's sporting events at USA Schools, spending time outdoors, and her fur baby, Peanut.

Janice is survived by her loving husband, Charles; her children: Carolyn Harper (fiancé Steven Repkie) and Charles Benson, Jr. (fiancé Denise Bentley); grandchildren: Paul Shankin, Jr., Allan Shankin, Christopher Harper, Brandon Harper, Austin Harper, Danielle Harper, Renee Gruehn, Jordan Gruehn, Joshua Repkie, Jenna Edwards and Macy Edwards; 4 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Paul Shankin: and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janice is preceded in death by her daughter, Sherri Shankin; siblings: Beverly Occhipinti, Philip Boik and Dale Boik; granddaughter, Sandra Shankin; and godson, Dale Boik, Jr.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place later in the spring.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
