Janice June Stephens

Janice June Stephens of Caro, age 83, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at her home, following a brief illness. Janice was born June 9, 1936 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of the late Henry & Ellen (McKay) Burtt and grew up in the Grand Rapids area. She later moved to Garden City and eventually to Caro in 1998. Janice was first employed as a model for the Polaroid Company before taking a position with Visual Scene Sunglasses as a regional manager, a job that afforded her the opportunity to travel the country. Most recently, she worked for her son's company in Caro, Quality Steel, where she remained until her passing. Janice was deeply devoted to her family and enjoyed traveling to her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's events. As the wife and mother to iron workers, she was active with the Local Iron Workers #25 for many years. She dabbled in the Lotto, watched the Gameshow Network, and finished countless crossword puzzles. Her love of Yahtzee was evidenced by the finish worn off the table where she played. Janice is survived by three children and their spouses, Desiree & Fred Levleitt of Garden City, Shelley & Joe Hughes of Livonia, Tom & Karen Stephens of Caro; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three siblings, Val, Maxine, and John; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by two daughters, Denise Dolphin and Shawn Stephens; one brother, Frank Burtt; great-grandson, Ethan Reitmeyer; and the father of her children, Thomas Stephens. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions in Janice's memory to the donor's favorite charity.
