Jean Gibbs Dean

Jean Gibbs Dean of Caro, age 102, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born September 8, 1920 in Royal Oak, the daughter of the late Harold and Helene (Gottschalk) Kennedy. Jean was a graduate of Royal Oak High School, Class of 1938. In 1940, she graduated from Central Michigan College of Education and pursued her career in teaching for many years. She married Marvin Dean on June 25, 1942 in a garden wedding at her family home on Square Lake in Lake Orion. They settled in Brown City where they raised their family. Jean was an active member of the Brown City Women's Club and in all school organizations. After moving to Caro in 1992, Jean became a member of the Caro Red Hats and the Retired Teachers Association. Recently, Jean was an active resident at American House Independent Living in Grand Blanc where she made many special friends. She especially enjoyed her once a week luncheons at Sophia's Kitchen. Jean was always thinking about her next trip, planning her next outfit to wear, shopping or visiting with friends, all while drinking another cup of tea. Jean is survived by her children, Daryl (Sandra) Dean, Marilyn Campbell, and Dale (Maureen) Dean; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Donna Somers and Norma Danhauser. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; and one sister, Geraldine. Jean's family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A private committal service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Brown City at a later date.
