Jean Fay Martin, age 87, of Cass City, formerly of Caro, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Northwood Meadows in Cass City. She was born on February 1, 1924 in Onaway, Michigan to the late Henry and Ruth (Leeson) Tate. Jean was a June 6, 1943 graduate of Cass City High School. The former Jean Tate married Harold Parsell in 1947, and he preceded her in death three months thereafter from complications during surgery. She then married Roy Martin on April 12, 1951 in Cass City, and he also preceded her in death on December 15, 1990. She had been a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II. Jean worked in dietary at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe, retiring after 27 years of employment. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Red Hat Society while living in Caro. Jean enjoyed going to the health club for water aerobics when able, watching old movies, and visiting with friends and family. She is survived by three daughters and one son, Kathleen (Rickey) Todd of Terre Haute, Indiana, Jacklyn (Dale) Steinman of Pigeon, Patricia (Glenn) Peruski of Minden City, and Charles L.(Dorothea) Martin of Rochester, New Hampshire; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; her sister, Georgia “Pat” (Clyde) Wells of Cass City; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Tate of Pigeon and Marie Bierlein of Saginaw; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and both of her husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Tate. In keeping with Jeans wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cass City with Pastor Russell officiating. Burial will be at Elkland Township Cemetery. There will be no visitation or services at the Collon Funeral Home.
