Jerry D. Guild

Loving husband, father, papa and friend, Jerry D. Guild of Caro, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Covenant Health Care - Cooper in Saginaw. Jerry was born May 8, 1944 in Cass City, the son of the late Alvin Charles & Mayme (Strickland) Guild. He attended Cass City High School and was employed for thirty-seven years with General Cable in Cass City in extruding and maintenance, retiring with the closure of the plant in 2000. Jerry was united in marriage with Lillian LaPratt on September 23, 1967 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro, and she survives. A self-described motorhead, Jerry loved repairing and rebuilding engines and had a shop full of parts to prove it. He was a member of the American Motorcycle Association and raced cross-county and enduro as a younger man. Jerry and Lil also traveled extensively across the United States by motorcycle. He was most content on the Au Sable River where he learned the art of flyfishing from his father and passed that love of the sport to his grandchildren. To Jerry, Sprite was the only beverage worth drinking and no garage sale was ever a waste of time. He was a talented woodworker and natural green-thumb, meticulous in his lawn care. More than anything, he loved his family. Known as Papa and Wawa to friends and family alike, Jerry and Lil never needed to share blood with someone for them to be family. He remained ever ready to drop what he was doing if anyone was in need of a part, a repair, or just a listening ear. His quiet and kind presence will be missed by countless many. Left to cherish Jerry's memory are his loving wife, Lillian Guild of Caro; three children, Gregory Guild of Caro, Missie & Don Jaster of Caro, Jennie & Joe Weissenborn of Caro; nine grandchildren, Jaron, Greyson, Gatlin, Trevor (Beth), Chance, Cassidy, Grace, Chlo (Brian), and Maggie; two sisters, Joyce Schad and her husband, Carter, of Caro, Linda Bossert of Caro; sister-in-law, Marie LaPratt of Caro; nephew, Alan Rae of Caro; and godson, Jason Rae of North Branch. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by an infant sister, Edith Guild; and niece, Dale Rae.
