Gerald A. “Jerry” Ziegler, age 81, of Bad Axe formerly of Elkton, passed away Friday afternoon January 8, at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe, from heart related issues. He was comforted by his sister, Marge, who was by his side in his last days.
He was born March 15, 1934, in Chandler Twp. to the late Martin and Louise (Licht) Ziegler. They moved to Elkton in his youth. Jerry graduated from Elkton High School in 1952.
Jerry went to Detroit College of Business and then worked for Shell Oil Company in Detroit in the accounting department. After furthering his education and receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 1966, he took an accounting position with Ford Motor Company in Detroit. He retired from Ford in 1994 and moved to Bad Axe after his retirement.
Jerry was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Berne.
Surviving are two sisters, Marge (Dan) Parker of Midland and Judy (Jerry) Fitch of Concord, NC; brother-in-law, Jim Reinbold of Frankenmuth; nieces, Julie McEwan, Kim Fitch-Tully and Chris Fitch; nephew, Jeff Fitch; and his dog buddies, Jaydon, Dealer, and Caleb Parker.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Janet Reinbold and a brother, Merlin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Berne. Rev. James Gorsegner, pastor, will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton, from 2 to 8 PM on Monday and at the church after 10 AM Tuesday.
Memorial gifts may be given to St John’s or the American Heart Assn.
