Jewell Lavon Peterhans of Vassar, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 surrounded by her loving family at Covenant Health Care - Harrison in Saginaw, following a courageous battle with cancer. Jewell was born July 1, 1941 in Oilton, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Everett & Mildred (Null) Delancy. She moved as a young girl with her parents to California and graduated from Avenal High School in 1959. She attended college and took a secretarial position shortly after at the Lemoore Naval Base in California. It was there that she met her future husband, Richard Peterhans and the couple was united in marriage on December 7, 1963. After twenty-five years in California and in search of a slower lifestyle, Jewell and Richard moved their family to Oregon in 1987 where they both worked in real estate and finally, in 2014, moved to Vassar. Jewell never met a stranger and loved people unconditionally. She had the ability to connect with others and make the world seem smaller by bringing people together. She will be remembered for her fantastic cooking that ensured no one ever left her home hungry. She was a devoted mother and was a constant cheerleader for her daughters and granddaughters. In her spare time, Jewell enjoyed golfing, participating in her Bunco group, playing cards with friends, painting in her younger years, and was very active in her community while living in California and Oregon. Her kind heart will be missed by the countless many blessed to know her. Jewell is survived by her loving husband of fifty-six years, Richard Peterhans of Vassar; two daughters, Teresa Treadaway and her husband, Dennis, of Medford, Oregon, Jennifer Romer of East Greenbush, New York; two granddaughters, Sierra Derrick of Grants Pass, Oregon, Chesney Romer of East Greenbush, New York; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bud Delancy. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and information will be announced by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home as it becomes available.
