Jo Ann Swiastyn

Jo Ann Swiastyn, age 66, of Grant Twp. near Elkton, died peacefully, Wednesday morning, April 26, at home with her family at her side.
She was born May 14, 1939, at the home of her parents, Iva (Kipfer) McAlpine and the late George McAlpine in Greenleaf Twp of Sanilac County.
On May 28, 1961, she was united in marriage to David Swiastyn at the Elkton Methodist Church. They moved to the Pontiac area shortly after they married and raised their family there. She worked in the automotive industry at several small shops until retiring in 1994. That same year they moved to their home in Grant Twp.
Jo Ann attended the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. She enjoyed working in her yard and gardens, growing flowers and vegetables, then canning those vegetables for winter use. She was a fun loving person, who liked country music and being with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, David; six children, Debbie (Jose) Licea of Oakland, Kim (Richard) Cervantz of Oxford, Tona (her companion, Neal Miller) Swiastyn of Metamora, Tina Swiastyn of Oxford, Shelley (Kent) Pretzner of China Twp., and David Swiastyn Jr. of Auburn Hills; twelve grandchildren, Jason, Somer, Kelli, Chuck, Amber, Casey, Autumn, James, Jared, Nicole, and Ashley Also, four great grandchildren, Alyssa, Damon, Darick, and Charles IV; five sisters, Charlene (Jim) Trisch of Pickford, Georgeann (Dave) McDowell of Elkton, Sandra (Ron) Brill of Caro, Carol (Bill) Bodziak of Attica, Christina (Steve) Schultz of Owendale; half sister, Barbara Kundinger of Sebewaing; two brothers, Delmar (Marty) McAlpine of Elkton and Dave (Hazel) McAlpine of Pigeon and her best friend of over thirty years, Phyllis Craft of Lapeer, many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are a brother, Delbert McAlpine and a sister, Judy McAlpine.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, May 1, at the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. Rev. Daniel Stone, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 7 to 9 PM Saturday, 1 to 9 PM Sunday and at the church after 11:00 AM Monday.
Memorials may be given to Heartland Hospice, Bad Axe.
