Joan M. Lawson age 81, of Souletown in Chandler Twp. died peacefully Sunday evening, November 24, while under hospice care.
She was born September 6, 1932 in Oliver Twp. to the late Arthur and Mabel (Stirrett) Soper and moved to the Detroit area in her teens.
On July 16, 1949, she was united in marriage to Andrew S. Lawson in Roseville, GA while he was in the service. They lived and worked in the Detroit area until 1976, when they came back to Huron County to their place in Souletown. He preceded her in death May 27, 2006.
Joan was a homemaker all her life and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
Surviving are her son, William (Mary) Lawson of Elkton; two daughters, Judy Spencer of Mt Vernon, KY, and Andrea Lawson of Brocklet, GA; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and son-in-law, Forest Cardwell of Frankfort, KY.
She was the last of seven children, preceding her were two brothers, Arthur “Bud”, and Ward Soper and four sisters, Eleanor Smith, Eulah Keillor, Joyce Merrick and Irene Santhany and her daughter, Vicky Cardwell.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 27 at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton with burial in Chandler Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 PM Tuesday and after 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
