Joan Margaret Phipps

Joan Margaret Phipps, age 87, of Holly, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Carey’s Young at Heart in Caro. Joan was born on January 27, 1938, in Gloucester, England, where she was raised and received her education.

During the Vietnam War, Joan and her sister, Pam, often attended dances at the local military bases, and it was there she happened to meet U.S. Air Force Serviceman, Donald Robert Phipps. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage in 1960 in Gloucester. Their marriage was filled with over thirty years of love, adventure, and cherished memories. Together, they enjoyed many vacations and shared a bond that remained strong even after Donald’s passing in 1991.

Joan devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, embracing her role as the heart of the family. She was always present, always moving, and always giving—her love knew no bounds. Whether painting, listening to music, or dancing, Joan found joy in life's simple pleasures. She was never one to sit still, always on her feet, helping others, and ensuring everyone around her was cared for before ever thinking of herself.

For Joan, family was everything. No amount of distance or time could keep her from staying connected to those she loved. Her unwavering devotion, constant presence, and warm spirit will be deeply missed but forever treasured in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Joan leaves to cherish her memory, her children & their spouses, Jeff & Kelly Phipps, Denise & Jayson Simms, Steve Phipps, Michael & Kristi Phipps, Shawn & Rich Barlow; grandchildren, Josh Isrow, Aneisa Ford, David Simms, Meg Simms, Cara Simms, Jessica Barlow, Tyler Phipps, Levi Phipps, Donald Phipps, and Allison Phipps; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Mitchell; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by her sister, Pam Mitchell.

In keeping with Joan’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
