Joan Swartzendruber passed away on June 9, 2010 at the age of 80. She was born on February 26, 1930 in Gagetown, Michigan to the late Carl and Mert (Rocheleau) Sieland. She graduated from Gagetown High School in 1949. After high school she moved to Detroit and was employed by Burroughs Adding Machine Co. until 1959. During that period Joan also did free-lance modeling for special events in the Detroit area. She married Chris Swartzendruber in 1950 in Centerline, Michigan. After her son, Thomas, was born in 1960, Joan gave up her working career and devoted her life to raising her son and being a devoted wife and homemaker. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and traveling. Joan is survived by her husband, Chris; one sister, Maggie (Paul) Langlois of Caro; two brothers, Chuck (Lonnie) Sieland of Farwell, Michigan, and Dick Sieland of Fairview, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her beloved son, Thomas; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Sieland. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro, MI. Rite of Committal will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the church where she will lie in state on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. There will be a Rosary prior to the Mass at 10:30 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the charity of the donors choice.
