Joann F. Lenda

Joann F. Lenda of Caro, age 82, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at her home, following a brief battle with cancer. Joann was born March 12, 1935 in Owosso, the daughter of Dorothy (DePlonty) Cockerill and the late F. M. "Tom" Cockerill. Joann was a 1953 graduate of Caro High School. She was a lifelong resident of Caro and a member of St. Christopher Parish in Caro. Joann dedicated her life to raising her six children, caring for her mother, and being there for her many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. After twenty-five years of service, she retired in 1991 from the Caro Regional Center. Joann spent her retirement years traveling with her sister, daughters, and her many friends. Additionally, she loved playing Pinochle and Bridge and belonged to several card clubs with her lady friends which gave her great joy. Joann also quilted blankets and knitted baby blankets and sweaters for all her grandchildren. Joann is survived by her children, Robert Stevenson of Caro, Dale (Linda) Stevenson of Caro, Kelly (Don) Flagg of Haslett, Bill (Kim) Stevenson of Caro, Lisa Sanders of Caro and Mandy Knox of Caro; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; her mother, Dorothy Cockerill; one sister, Nancy (Bob) Stuart of Clio; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, Joann was preceded in death by five siblings, Jimmie, Tom and Bill Cockerill, Mary Ray and Sally O'Brien. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Caro with Rev. Jerzy Dobosz officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Christopher Parish or Compassus Hospice.
