Joanne Carole McDurmon of Caro, age 81, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Covenant Health Care - Harrison in Saginaw, following a period of declining health. Joanne was born November 18, 1933 in Owosso, the daughter of the late N. Shirley & Ruth Dora (Hawn) Hill, and was a 1952 graduate of Caro High School. She was united in marriage with Bernard L. McDurmon on August 30, 1952, and he survives her. Joanne was employed as a nurse's aide for many years at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro before becoming a librarian's aide at the Caro Area District Library. Joanne always had a soft spot in her heart for children and provided daycare from her home for many years, and spent her final ten years serving as a foster grandparent at Highland Pines and Caro Community Schools. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Caro for over ten years, was a life member of the Caro VFW Auxiliary Post #4164 and a Senior Regent with the Women of the Moose, Chapter 940 in Caro. Joanne's life revolved around her family and she was a steadfast supporter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at all of their events. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler and also enjoyed working in her yard, flower garden, watching birds and collecting countless bells that were displayed in her home. In addition to her husband, Bernard, Joanne is survived by three children and their spouses, Terry & Ann Marie McDurmon of Bay City, Shelly & Alan Luther of Caro, Shirley & Don Hodgkinson of Caro; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew & Heidi McDurmon of Sugar Loaf Key, Florida, Adam & Jennifer McDurmon of Munger, Sarah & Robert Reinelt of Caro, Corey & Camille Hodgkinson of Caro, Joshua Hodgkinson of West Olive, Allison & James Kitchen of Munger, Crista & Jay Hendges of Holland, Robert Luther of Caro; five great-grandchildren, Jordan Kitchen, Grace and Taylor Reinelt, Emersyn and Reagan Hodgkinson; three siblings and their spouses, David & Diane Hill of Nebraska, Richard Hill of Florida, Joyce & Jim Ford of Michigan; sister-in-law, Georgia Weston of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by one son, Kenny McDurmon; and her mother-in-law, Myrtle Martin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Dorothy Thon officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. A Women of the Moose Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
