Joanne M. Smith

Joanne M. Smith, age 76, of Sebewaing, went to live with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 26, 2013. Joanne was born in Sebewaing on March 29, 1937 to the late Arnold and Leona (Rhode) Layher. She married Kenneth W. Smith on October 18, 1958 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He passed away June 3, 2003.

Joanne worked selling Avon products for over 30 years. She worked in retail for 20 years, was the co-chair for the Board of Stewardship at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and was a member of Thumb Friends of the Arts.

Joanne is survived by her children: Nancy (Jon) Shackelford, Dale (Jody) Smith and David (Tricia) Smith; her grandchildren: Chris (Jake) Rowley, Dustin & Courtney Smith, Nicole Shackelford, Valerie and Maria Smith; great grandchildren: Andrew and Melody Rowley; sisters-in-law: Nancy Layher and Joyce (Gene) Mill; brothers-in-law: Norman (Millie) Smith, Lyle Smith and Dean (Kay) Smith.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Kenneth Layher.

Visitation is Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 12pm-8pm.

The funeral service is Monday, July 29, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am.

Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
