Joe Cilc Jr., 91, a lifelong Caseville resident, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at his home while under hospice care.

Joe was born in Caseville on March 16, 1921 to the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Hladik) Cilc. He attended the Caseville School before entering the US Navy during World War II. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters from 1942 to 1945. On October 25, 1944 he married Grace Clancy at Caseville Methodist Church.

Joe was the retired owner of Cilc Builders, having built many homes in the area. He was a member of the Caseville American Legion, Pigeon VFW, NRA, and a Charter member of the Caseville Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed working, hunting, the outdoors and spending time at the cabin he built in the U.P..

He is survived by his wife Grace; children Joseph M. (Rose) of Escanaba, Ronald J. of Caseville and Linda (Dave) Thick of Caseville; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Jim (Marilee), Anthony (Geraldine), and Jerry (Jean) all of Caseville and sisters Penny Addy of Caseville, Blanche Wilfong of Idaho, Sylvia Kanyak of Caseville and Gail (Tom) Swidorski of Hemlock.

He was preceded in death by his brother O. King Cilc and sister Olga Schmanski.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with Chaplain Karen Bouverette officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Caseville Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Thumb Animal Shelter.
