Joe Gutierrez Torrez of Bay City, age 54, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Joe was born March 1, 1965 in Brownfield, Texas, the son of Ramona (Gutierrez) Stoick and Jose Torrez II. He enlisted with the U.S. Army at the age of 17, serving for eight years. Following his honorable discharge, Joe began a twelve-year career with Grede Foundry in Vassar that lasted until the plant's closing. He later took on roofing jobs and worked as a hazardous materials truck driver. Joe will be remembered for his kind and generous nature, always willing to go without so someone else didn't have to. He had a work ethic that was never-ending, but spent his spare time rooting for the New England Patriots, fishing, hunting, and watching NASCAR. His favorite days were those that were spent spoiling his granddaughter, Ariana, and always looked forward to "Maddie Days." Joe is survived by one son and his wife, Joe & Nikki Torrez of Battle Creek; one granddaughter, Ariana Torrez of Battle Creek; his mother and step-father, Ramona & Nick Stoick of Caro; father and step-mother, Jose & Juana Torrez of Vassar; paternal grandmother, Delfina Torrez of Caro; five sisters and their husbands, Marie & Rolando Telles of Mangum, Oklahoma, Christine & Dave Kurish of Caro, Sandra Garza and partner, Scott Gucwa, of Caro, Mona & Mark Spencer of Caro, Genie & Wesley Yurgaites of Alexandria, Virginia; step-siblings, Angela & Tim Smith of Caro, Jeff & Kelly Stoick of Caro; fourteen nieces and nephews, Tiffany Solis, Marcos Telles, Michelle Telles, Nichole Siegner, Katie Ramos, Kenya Spencer, Victoria Garza, Mark Spencer, Jr., Nicholas Garza, Blake Spencer, Alexandria Garza, Orlando Telles, Kyla Spencer, Madalyn Kurish; and many loving aunts, uncles and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2019 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Caro with Rev. Jerzy Dobosz officiating. The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
