Joel M. Machowicz, 66, of Sebewaing, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City under hospice care, from Covid complications.
Joel was born to the late Joe and Margaret (Balasz) Machowicz on April 22, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois. On April 2, 2011 Joel married Carol Y. Wyse, DO in Swartz Creek. They moved to Sebewaing in 2019. Joel attended Laker High School and obtained his GED in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He served on the USS Hector AR-7. Joel worked at multiple jobs over the years including setting up oil rigs off the coast of Louisiana, Michigan Sugar Company in Sebewaing, night cook at the Franklin Inn in Bad Axe and LJ Gascho Furniture Co. in Pigeon. He retired from Meijer in Flint after 15 years as Hi-Lo driver and grocery stocker.
Joel enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading – especially history and sci-fi and watching movies at the drive-in, at the movie theater and especially at home with friends. Joel had an outgoing personality and could converse with anyone. He loved to make people laugh and he was happiest when he left people smiling. He will be greatly missed.
Joel is survived by his wife Carol: siblings Keith Machowicz of Sebewaing, Cathy (Aaron) Heck of Pigeon and James (Ginny) Machowicz of Pigeon; multiple nieces and nephews; step-daughters Brenda Cherry of Waterford, Bethany Cherry Tesnar of Cincinnati, OH and Debi Cherry of Flushing; aunt Joan Smith of Caro; special friends Lee & Gloria Hubbard of Swartz Creek and Tom & Dawn Stein of Akron.
Funeral services are 5:00pm Sunday, May 23rd at the Champagne Funeral Chapel with Zella Daniel officiating. Burial with military honors will be Tuesday, May 25th, in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be 1:00pm - 5:00pm Sunday.
Memorials may be offered to be used at the family’s discretion.
