Johann "John" Balk

Johann "John" Balk, age 89, of Sebewaing, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at his home. John was born May 25, 1921 to Johann & Margrate (Lieble) Balk in Nuerenberg, Germany. He married Emilie Stoekl December 13, 1943 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Germany. In 1954, John, Emlie and their two girls moved to Saginaw, MI and in October 1956 to Sebewaing, MI. He owned and operated Balks Bakery in Sebewaing from 1956 to 1986. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

John is the beloved husband of Emlie (Stoekl). Loving father of Margit (John) Dyer and the late Ursula Taylor. He is a proud grandfather of Steven Taylor, Troy Taylor, Tina (Tony) Gage, Brian Dyer, Mike Dyer, and the late Jeffrey Dyer. He is a special great grandfather of Christina, Ty, Zachery, Weiland, Garrison, Sean, and the late Ethan. He has one great great grandson. John is a loving uncle of Hannlore & Jim Thompson and Ruth Jeske.

Visitation will be Friday, February 25, 2011 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home, Sebewaing from 3-8pm.

The funeral service will be Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Visitation at the church will begin at 10am until the time of service at 11am.

Burial will be private at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
