John F. Bivens, 78, of Elkton, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at home under hospice care.
John was born June 2, 1944 in Pontiac to the late John Wesley and Vera (Edler) Bivens. He graduated from Laker High School in 1963. He married SuzAnne Rosenthal on November 6, 1965 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. They lived their entire married life on Hoffman Street in Elkton, Michigan. He retired as a machinist from Tower Automotive in 2005 where he served as union president for many years. He loved to ride his bicycle to work, and his grandchildren loved waiting and watching for him to ride his bike home whenever they would come to visit. He loved playing and coaching basketball and critiquing many sports events with his kids and grandkids. He had an avid love for the outdoors… he loved to camp and watch his birds and squirrels in his backyard… sitting by the campfire telling stories was one of his favorite things to do and passed this love of nature onto his children. He loved to cook and barbecue and enjoyed creating new recipes. John was the handyman of the family…he loved to create in his workshop and he truly was able to fix anything his family needed. He cherished his time with family above all else… we will love and miss him very much.
John is survived by his wife SuzAnne; children Melissa (Michael) Buggy of Marysville and Daniel (Stacey) of Bloomfield Hills; grandchildren Kathaleen (Christopher), Elijah (Allyssa), Hannah, Ethan and Caleb. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey, sister Judy and brother Lester.
A memorial service will be 11:00am Saturday, October 29th at the Champagne Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ean Green officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00am and continue until the time of the service.
