John David Blanton

John David Blanton of Ubly, age 60, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community. He was born September 27, 1963 in Wyandotte, the son of James and Carmen (Alcala) Blanton. John graduated from Waterford Kettering High School and served his country in the United States Army. After his service, he worked as a press operator at Regency Plastics, where he was well-known among his colleagues for his friendly bets and easy-going nature.

John spent many years coaching his sons in Little League, sharing his love for the game and teaching valuable life lessons. His coaching career extended over twenty years into men’s slow-pitch softball, where his teams thrived under his guidance and support. John was an avid sports fan, known to watch any game on TV—even an ant race would capture his attention. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball, listening to music, and attending concerts. John was a free spirit who never met a stranger, and his social, fun, and easy-going personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

John leaves to cherish his memory his children, John Blanton, Jr., Jesse (Miranda) Blanton, Joshua Blanton (Senaya Fernandez), Tyler Blanton, and Andrew Blanton; grandchildren, Alex, Aiden, Jesse, Benjamin, Tammy, and Harley; mother, Carmen Blanton; John’s person and best friend, Donna Blanton; siblings, James Blanton and Laura (Paul) Kunth; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father, James Blanton.

In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Inurnment will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
